Hadjar given a warning

NEWS STORY
24/10/2026

Isack Hadjar has been given a formal warning for erratic driving.

On the approach to Turn 1, Alex Albon moved to the outside of the corner on the approach of the Red Bull, to avoid any impeding of that car.

Hadjar locked his brakes and had to abort the lap. According to the stewards he was obviously upset with this and took what could be described as "retaliatory action" by swerving towards the Williams.

The stewards regarded this as not only erratic but also an action that should be discouraged and hence imposed the penalty of a warning to the Red Bull driver.

Had the action been dangerous or resulted in a collision, a more severe penalty would have been imposed.

No further action was taken over the pitlane incident involving Nico Hulkenberg.

An Audi team representative explained to the stewards that Hulkenberg's rear vision was obscured by the car behind at the practice start location, and that the German had no idea of the approach of Lance Stroll.

He further explained that the start procedure can take between 5 and 15 seconds so at the time Hulkenberg took the decision to commence the procedure, the proximity of the Aston Martin would not have been obvious to him.

The situation was compounded by the fact that the pit lane exit road requires cars performing practice starts to merge with cars travelling down the fast lane directly to the pit exit, over a very short distance.

The stewards noted that although Stroll had to brake, the situation was determined not to be dangerous and was easily managed by both drivers. Accordingly, no further action was taken.

In another incident, Lewis Hamilton was on a push lap approaching Turn 12, Gabriel Bortoleto, on an in-lap, was travelling at a lower speed in a position which compromised the Ferrari's braking. Hamilton had to abort the lap.

Bortoleto explained that he had received a warning from his engineer some 15 seconds earlier of Hamilton's approach but he was busy dealing with his car on the approach to Turn 12 and overlooked that warning. He received no reminder of Hamilton's approach before Turn 12.

He explained that because the entry to Turn 12 is downhill, he only saw the Ferrari at the last moment and released the brakes and went into the run-off area. He agreed that the move was too late and he had compromised Hamilton's lap.

The Ferrari team representative acknowledged that the incident was not dangerous.

The stewards determined that Bortoleto unnecessarily impeded Hamilton and imposed a warning consistent with previous incidents of this type in free practice sessions.
